COSMETIC DENTAL SOLUTIONS that WILL MAKE YOU SMILE

Cosmetic Dentistry Calgary

Dr. Silver and Associates are general dentists, not cosmetic dentist specialists. Cosmetic dentistry is not a term/specialty recognized by the Alberta Dental Association & College. Dr. Silver and Associates provide cosmetic dental procedures such as dental bonding, teeth whitening, clear braces / Invisalign braces, porcelain veneers, and dental implants as part of their general dentist license.

At Macleod Trail Dental, our dentists are largely concerned with the quality and appearance of our patients’ teeth and smile. In the cosmetic dentistry field, the emphasis is placed on the art of our craft and we strive to give you that natural, beautiful look you’ve always wanted. Cosmetic dentistry offers a wide range of benefits including making regular cleaning easier as well as improving a patient’s overall confidence and well-being.

So why do our patients elect for optional cosmetic dentistry? For their quality of life. The fact is, it’s easier to smile and be happy when you aren’t conscious about crooked, stained or chipped teeth. Multiple studies have shown that your smile has a immediate, subconscious impact on the people you meet. A brighter smile reflects youth, vitality, happiness and warmth and cosmetic dentistry procedures can help you become more confident in showing off that grin.

Cosmetic dentistry treatments can correct things like uneven teeth spacing to whitening a stained or discolored smile. The following is a list of the aesthetic dentistry options we provide that can lift your smile to whole new level.

Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is one of the most popular cosmetic dentistry procedures because it greatly improves the appearance of your teeth. Research shows that professional teeth whitening is more effective and safer than do-it-yourself remedies.

Procedure

  1. Prior to having your teeth whitened, any existing cavities will need to be treated.
  2. The dentist or dental hygienist will clean your teeth. This is to remove any bacteria and food substances that contribute to staining. Once this is done, the whitening process can begin.
  3. After your dentist has applied a protective substance over your gums, the whitening agent will be placed on your teeth. This agent is then activated by a laser light and the treatment will begin.
  4. The procedure takes between 30-90 minutes and patients will require between 1-3 appointments, depending on how severe your stains are and how white you want your teeth to be.

Outcome

The results of teeth whitening can last up to one year, depending on how well you look after your teeth.

Try to avoid smoking or consuming a lot of staining foods and drinks and you may not need another whitening treatment for 6-12 months.

Veneers

Dental veneers are custom-made shells of tooth-colored material designed to improve the appearance of your teeth.

They are designed to fix a number of problems including:

  • Discolored teeth
  • Worn-down teeth
  • Chipped, broken or cracked teeth
  • Misaligned, uneven teeth
  • Gap Teeth

Procedure

The procedure of being fitted with a dental veneer usually requires three different appointments with our dentist. The first will be a consultation, while the other two are for making and applying the veneers.

Below is a brief summary of what you can expect when getting a veneer:

Treatment Plan: During this appointment, we will examine your teeth to make sure that dental veneers are an appropriate treatment plan for you. We will discuss the details of the procedure and what it involves. Your active participation is crucial at this step and we want to hear what your expectations are so that we can work together to achieve your desired result. We may also need to take some x-rays and possibly make an impression of your teeth.

Preparation: A veneer is usually attached to your tooth’s surface, which means that we will need to remove about 0.5 mm from the affected tooth’s surface before adding the veneer. We will use a local anesthetic to numb the area before trimming. After this, an impression of your tooth is made and sent out to our dental laboratory so that they can construct your veneer. It usually takes 1-2 weeks for us to receive your veneers back.

Bonding: When you come back in for your third appointment, we will examine the fit and color of the veneer, trimming and adjusting the color as needed. Once you are satisfied with the look, a special cement will be used to fix the veneer onto your tooth. We will evaluate your bite and make any final adjustments in the veneer so that you can leave our office happy and comfortable with your new smile.

Outcome

We often recommend that our patients come in for a follow-up about 1-2 weeks after they have been fitted with the veneer. This is so we can examine how your gums are responding to the veneer and examine the veneer’s placement.

Veneers are a wonderful service that will have a significant impact on your smile and self-confidence and we want to ensure that you are satisfied and happy with the final product.

Many patients are opting for the different procedures of cosmetic dentistry to improve the look of their smile. And it’s no wonder because such dental work has some huge benefits, including:

  • They produce results: Many types of dental concerns can be corrected with cosmetic dentistry. Procedures such as teeth whitening and veneers can even reduce signs of aging and leave you with a brighter, more youthful appearance. But it is more than just cosmetic. This field of dentistry can also help repair dental damage caused by illness, trauma and developmental abnormalities.
  • Overall improvement: Cosmetic dentistry can leave patients with an improved physical appearance, but also a stronger, brighter psychological outlook. Many patients who have had challenges with low self-esteem have experienced a boost in confidence when these types of dental problems are corrected. They report not only being more comfortable with themselves but also in their relationships with others in social and work settings.
  • More comfortable teeth: Whether you have veneers, implants or any other cosmetic dentistry procedure done to your teeth, you will discover that not only can you feel better, but your mouth may also feel much more comfortable.
  • Better oral health: We have found that when our patients have healthy teeth, and a smile they are happy with, they may feel motivated to take better care of their teeth and overall oral health.
