Dental veneers are custom-made shells of tooth-colored material designed to improve the appearance of your teeth.
They are designed to fix a number of problems including:
- Discolored teeth
- Worn-down teeth
- Chipped, broken or cracked teeth
- Misaligned, uneven teeth
- Gap Teeth
The procedure of being fitted with a dental veneer usually requires three different appointments with our dentist. The first will be a consultation, while the other two are for making and applying the veneers.
Below is a brief summary of what you can expect when getting a veneer:
Treatment Plan: During this appointment, we will examine your teeth to make sure that dental veneers are an appropriate treatment plan for you. We will discuss the details of the procedure and what it involves. Your active participation is crucial at this step and we want to hear what your expectations are so that we can work together to achieve your desired result. We may also need to take some x-rays and possibly make an impression of your teeth.
Preparation: A veneer is usually attached to your tooth’s surface, which means that we will need to remove about 0.5 mm from the affected tooth’s surface before adding the veneer. We will use a local anesthetic to numb the area before trimming. After this, an impression of your tooth is made and sent out to our dental laboratory so that they can construct your veneer. It usually takes 1-2 weeks for us to receive your veneers back.
Bonding: When you come back in for your third appointment, we will examine the fit and color of the veneer, trimming and adjusting the color as needed. Once you are satisfied with the look, a special cement will be used to fix the veneer onto your tooth. We will evaluate your bite and make any final adjustments in the veneer so that you can leave our office happy and comfortable with your new smile.
We often recommend that our patients come in for a follow-up about 1-2 weeks after they have been fitted with the veneer. This is so we can examine how your gums are responding to the veneer and examine the veneer’s placement.
Veneers are a wonderful service that will have a significant impact on your smile and self-confidence and we want to ensure that you are satisfied and happy with the final product.
