What are Emax Veneers?

Emax veneers are a type of custom-fitted dental veneer made from high strength porcelain. Emax veneers are bonded directly onto the front surface of your teeth using a thin layer of porcelain material.

Benefits Of Emax Porcelain Veneers

The main reason patients opt for dental veneers at our clinic is because of the number of different benefits Emax porcelain veneers have, including:

  1. Ability to improve the shape, colour, and length of your teeth
  2. Higher durability for longer-lasting results
  3. Less likely to chip when they come in contact with your other teeth
  4. Less time to prepare and develop Emax veneers so you can get a more beautiful smile, faster!
  5. No need for tooth etching or drilling
  6. Offers higher transparent bonding for a more natural look

How do veneers work?

Our process for veneers includes three steps:

  1. Consultation
  2. Preparation of your teeth
  3. Placement of the Emax veneers

Consultation

Our Emax porcelain veneers are custom made to fit every patient perfectly. Our local Calgary dentist, Dr. Jennifer Silver, will start by asking you what your perfect smile looks like, your preferred tooth colour, length, and shape. Then, she’ll take photographs of your teeth to review how porcelain veneers would look depending on your desired tooth shape, colour, and length.

Preparation

Preparation for your veneers will be made during a second appointment. During this appointment, Dr. Jennifer Silver will prepare your teeth by taking impressions that will be sent to our lab where your custom Emax porcelain veneers are made.

She will then provide you with temporary veneers that will be similar to your final set. Your temporary veneers will help you get comfortable with how they will look and feel.

Placement

Your new veneers will be placed during your third (and final) visit once they are made. Dr. Silver will place them carefully and permanently bond them to your teeth. She will then provide you with ongoing home dental instructions to help maintain their durability.

Who is a good candidate for porcelain veneers?

Individuals looking for a cosmetic upgrade in their smile, including whiter, straighter, and brighter teeth, would benefit from getting porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers are also a good option for anyone looking to correct dental issues including:

  • Damaged, decaying, cracked, or chipped teeth
  • Crooked or misaligned teeth
  • Teeth that are worn out from teeth grinding (or clenching)
  • Tooth discolouration that isn’t affected by over the counter whitening products
  • Large tooth gaps

However, it’s important that anyone who wants to get veneers has healthy, fully developed teeth. If you have a lot of cavities, fillings, and/or a dental disease like periodontitis, we recommend working to improve the integrity of your teeth before considering porcelain veneers.

How To Care For Veneers

The good news about porcelain veneers is that there is no special treatment required to care for them. Daily positive dental habits such as brushing and flossing twice a day, avoiding sugary and acidic food and beverages, and visiting the dentist every 6 months to a year (depending on your benefits) is the best thing you can do to maintain them.

However, we also recommend taking additional measures such as avoiding using your teeth as a tool to open bottles or packaging, and using a night guard if you grind your teeth. This will help avoid future costly damages.

FAQs

Porcelain veneers can last up to 10 years or more — as long as you take proper care of them. You should treat them like you would your regular teeth. Even with proper dental care, your porcelain veneers, like your natural teeth, are subject to normal wear and tear.

Yes, porcelain veneers are meant to be a permanent replacement for your natural teeth. However, like your natural teeth, they’re subject to damage from accidents, teeth grinding, etc.

Yes, any general dentist is licensed to provide dental veneers in their practice. However, some Calgary dentists choose to focus on cosmetic dentistry services more than others. If you’re trying to decide which dentist’s office to call, you might want to consider setting up a consultation or asking to view some of the before-and-after photos of veneer cases that they’ve completed.

Cosmetic veneers are hand-designed by dental ceramists under the direction of your cosmetic dentist. In some cases, you might even ask for a “wax up” to try on beforehand, to ensure that the outcome looks the way you want it to. Your dentist will specify the exact shade, shape, and texture that you want your veneers to have, and then relay that information to the lab.

Some general dentists also offer chairside veneers that are made by hand at the time of your appointment. This option is usually best if there’s only one tooth that needs to be addressed. In such cases, you want to have an experienced general dentist who has the eye for detail and artistic hand it takes to provide a custom cosmetic restoration.

Dental veneers are a type of cosmetic dentistry treatment that makes your teeth look whiter, straighter, and appropriately shaped. But in order to do that, they must be permanently bonded to the front of the teeth in your smile zone.

Since Calgary veneers add width to your teeth, it’s necessary to slightly reduce the thickness of your enamel so that your smile doesn’t look bulky or your teeth oversized. But when that happens, it also makes your veneer treatment non-reversible. So, if for any reason a veneer falls off or you choose to have it removed, you’ll need to get a new veneer placed to protect the tooth and help it look properly sized. You wouldn’t want to leave a prepped tooth uncovered, because it wouldn’t blend in with the ones around it.
